Numerous languages are supported, enough to cover pretty much any user's needs. Aside from translations, the service also provides definitions, synonyms, usage examples and pronunciations.
Unobtrusive menu bar translation app
To bring up the translation bar, you need to use the ⌃⌥T (Ctrl+Alt+T) hotkey. Next, just start typing whatever you want to translate. The app can process both words and phrases, though additional information will only be displayed when a single word is entered.
You can listen to the correct pronunciation in both languages by clicking the volume icon. To view definitions, synonyms and usage examples, simply scroll down. Finally, to switch between languages, just select them from the top-left or top-right corners of the window.
Intuitive configuration and support for hotkeys
Aside from the hotkey used to display the translation bar, shortcuts and key combinations are also available for completing suggestions, inverting languages and listening to pronunciations.
A welcome guide is displayed when launching the app for the first time, and it does a good job of explaining the basics to new users.
To sum up, Transee is a well-designed app that lets you translate words and phrases from your desktop using just a simple hotkey. It stays out of your way when not needed, and it relies on the very capable Google Translate service.
